Filming Pilot Day 3

And then we had another smash cut day, and another location change, this time for Matthew, who plays Russian bouncer Valery. He has possible connections to the Russian mafia, and we cut to his “house” which is basically a mattress in a garage, where he’s hiding out. Matthew is excellent as Valery (obviously, as the character was written specifically for him). I love doing that; writing the character for a specific person, and then watching them perform and them being even BETTER than you imagined. He’s adding so much layering that I didn’t even imagine writing it! They really all are, I couldn’t ask for a better cast!

JT had some fun with “dramatic lighting” which is basically just using a lot of shadow, because Valery’s home needs to look threatening in an exaggerated, funny way.
