The Body Issues of an Actress
Sometimes I have body issues. I feel like all actors do at one point or another, even if you’re the skinniest actress in the room. Then you don’t have enough curves, and then you’re self-conscious about THAT. A lot of men in the business have body issues as well, which is not as talked about. They feel like they’re not muscular enough, or their jawline isn’t strong enough, or GOD HELP ME if I’m going bald. The industry has changed a lot in the past few years; it isn’t QUITE as important if they can see your ribs anymore, and restrictions on body types is thankfully relaxing a tad. And yet, we don’t even need the studio telling us we look like shit. Hell, I haven’t even ever been in a place where the studios would tell me ANYTHING because they don’t even know who the hell I AM yet! But there’s that studio executive in the back of my head who tells me sometimes that I’m not thin enough, I’m not pretty enough, I’m just not enough enough to do anything. And it’s troublesome that I still have this voice, that anyone still has this voice. Yes, it’s good to work out. Yes, it’s good to be healthy. But I’ve always found it’s better to work out because you want to do it, rather than doing it because it’s what other people want. All in all, I’m happy with myself and how I look. But every once in awhile, there’s that voice who tells me, you know you would look way better three pounds lighter…just saying.
