New Foxhole Stories: The Ninth Door

So we have a new Foxhole Stories play! Basically over the last two months (we really pumped this one out quickly) we wrote a play about one of Matthew’s personal experiences and it blossomed into this whole idea of these nine veterans stuck in a metaphysical place after death, and there are doors that appear that allow them to move on, and some of them can deal with it and some of them can’t. It’s very surreal, á la No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartres, and very experimental…and we have no idea if it will actually work onstage or not. Because, it is up to interpretation, for example, that is it a real legit purgatory? Or is it metaphorical for veterans either being able to move on from their war experience or not? Do we choose to live in the past or move onto the future? This is a very important theme as well, because many of Matthew’s old buddies from his squad have committed suicide. A staggering amount. Over 50 men from his original unit. And no one is paying attention! No one is helping these men! It incenses me, every time another man dies. Anyway, we are going to premier this play at Hollywood Fringe, which we did with Twist Pull Smoke, because it is a GREAT outlet to premier new plays. We had our first “Fringe Townhall Meeting” which is basically where they give you all the basic info (which we already know because we’ve done it before) but it is REALLY a place where you can network, and meet up with old friends and make some new ones (and hopefully new audience members!) Happy Fringing!
