Quarantine Part 9
So Matthew got me a presentttt because quarantine is hard goddamn it!! I need a present STAT! Seriously though, it was a surprise and a welcome one! I will start by saying this; Marilyn Monroe is an ICON! I totally fell in love with her when I was a child; I wanted to be just like her. It wasn’t until later that I found out her flaws; her drug addiction, her president-banging, her lateness to sets…so maybe I don’t want to be JUST like her (forget the president-banging…being late to SET? It’s my worst NIGHTMARE, how embarrassed I’d be!) Although she’s not remembered for her fabulous acting, I don’t think anyone in film history had as much chemistry with the camera as she did. She just lit UP when that camera was on her. She actually was the actress (along with Jane Russell, Jean Harlow and Katharine Hepburn) who made me want to act on film. There’s something magical about acting for a camera, not an audience. It’s so subtle, it picks up EVERYTHING. And if the camera loves you, the rest is history. Nothing can touch that special bond. And say all the awful things you want about Marilyn…she and the camera had a love affair hotter than anything she ever had with JFK. It lives on today, seventy years later. And that is incredible. So Matthew bought me a modern art piece (that wasn’t cheap) that is comprised of Marilyn. And I love it to pieces.
